Mmm...finger food

Wow, did everyone see the story about the finger found in a bowl of Wendy's chili, right here in Sunnyvale? And that wasn't even the most disturbing part of the story. When the woman who found the finger showed it to the manager, he told her it was a vegetable! A freaking vegetable! No wonder she's suing the franchise. This is why In-N-Out Burger is the only fast food joint you'll find in our list of favorite restaurants. If there were a finger in my food there, I'd hear the screaming of the guy who lost it. No pre-made food = no gross surprises.

The woman discovered the finger in her mouth, which is pretty much the worst way to discover one. Reminds me of the joke about what's worse than finding a worm in your apple...half a worm. Well, the only thing worse than a finger in your chili is a finger in the chili in your mouth. Chew on that one for a while.

I'm watching West Wing right now, and NBC is bombarding me with commercials for the Robin Williams biopic Mork and Mindy. Mork and Mindy? Really??? Does anyone actually plan on watching this? My Tivo is recording Gigli at that time, so I guess I'm out of luck. I got the same commercial a few times yesterday as well, while watching Scrubs and The Office, so they are really priming the pump for this thing. Maybe I'll ask my co-worker Rich what he thinks, since he is a Nielsen household. Unlike all of you, his vote matters.

Speaking of The Office...despite its political incorrectness and Steve Carrell - two of my favorite things - it didn't make me laugh much. I'm willing to give it a little more time, but if it doesn't get better, it's going to go the way of Joey. I think I lasted three episodes on that one. How is that doing in the ratings, anyway? I'm one of those short-attention-spanned television viewers who no longer allows a show to find its audience. Then again, I did make it through a pretty terrible season six of West Wing, and it has paid off. The show is much better this year.

Looks like next week's episode is the season finale, and it will probably end in a cliff hanger about who gets the presidency, Santos or Vinick. Andrew wants the Republican Vinick to win, for a change of pace, but we already get that show on CNN every day. The West Wing is already a change of pace with a Democrat in the White House. Plus, Santos is in Star Wars, too, and there's no way the First Chairman and Viceroy of Alderaan loses the election.

Let me put it this way: do you want a guy from a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, or do you want a guy who served his country, the United States of America, as part of the mobile army surgical hospital in Korea?

I'm with you on The Office. A disappointment, not only on its own merits, but especially compared to the British original. Steve Carrell is the wrong choice for that role, at least based on the way he's playing the character right now.

I did find the second episode (Diversity Day) a bit funnier than the pilot, though, so I'm willing to give it a couple more weeks.

As for The West Wing, I'm surprised to admit that I'm hoping it will be Vinick. Really I think it boils down to finding Alan Alda more interesting to watch than Jimmy Smits, though I like them both.

It wasn't a long, long time ago...it was merely a long time ago. It was far, far away, though.

I can see the appeal of Vinick. It would be different for the show. And I do think Alan Alda is good. His character isn't really a Republican, though, in the modern sense. Regardless, it looks like they've managed to find a good replacement to keep the show running, if they so choose, though I've got to think they are running out of ideas.

I share your unease with the NBC show, though one of my friends argued for it. Our exchange is visible here.
