Annaka Got Finalist!

Blog overload. Just wanted to wish Annaka good look in her Da Vinci Code Quest. She made the top 10,000!

As such, she will be receiving a replica cryptex:

And of course she gets the chance to win the huge travel/Sony prize package. No undue pressure on her, of course, as the sheer number of competitors makes victory unlikely, even for Annaka, but it's still great that she gets a chance. Drew finished, too, but he couldn't get to the final puzzle until late in the day, so he had no chance. And Hubert and I got the shaft for being employees (BOOO!). I don't even care about the prizes, since I know I wouldn't win anyway. I just want to play and have a chance to compete. I miss the puzzles. :(

Send good thoughts Annaka's way. If anyone can pull it off...

You guys have too much time on your hands :)
Thanks for the good wishes, though. I guess I'd best go get a copy of the Da Vinci Code, and brush up in my abundant spare time between now and Saturday . . . .

Well, the trials are over.
It turned out to be a harder version of the initial rounds (except without the "observation" category.
I did great on the pseudo-sudoku and connect-the-blobs; ok on the arrange-the-paintings; wretchedly on the chess one (no hints to help this time, and since it wasn't a forced mate it was a lot harder for me to track it down, as a non-chess-player); and fine on the puzzle.
The jigsaw was kind of interesting because they kept switching the picture - about once a second. Pretty disorienting at first, but it actually made it easier in some ways.
Anyway, I think the chess messed my chances, but you never know. Maybe everyone else got stuck on the blobs or sudoku.
No anagrams, incidentally. Sorry, guys ;)

I hope they give you a ranking out of 10,000! Actually, I hope they don't need to give you a ranking because it's obvious when you win the grand prize!
