Back to the Blog

It's been a while, but what better reason to return to the blog than (deep breath) visits from Gina, my mom, Ravi, and Jeremy for the three-day weekend, the start of the last year of my roarin' twenties, a trip to Tahoe, the arrival of my long-awaited camera lens, Guitar Hero, Hillary Clinton up close, an exciting new book, my first round of golf in half a year, and, oh yeah, a wedding date and location. :)

Lots of visitors for the long weekend. First order of business was the Oregon game Saturday night, which Stanford won by 19. Afterwards, my mom, Won, and Leslie joined the aged 6th Men for dinner at Korea House, a sort of impromptu early birthday dinner.

The next day, Gina, Andrew, Ravi, Jeremy, and I hit the slopes, though I use the word slopes loosely. As Ravi and Andrew will tell you, Heavenly blows for snowboarders, with all the flat trails. Luckily Gina and I were on skis. :)

After we got back to our place, it was all about Guitar Hero I and II. Hours of it. Gina, Jeremy, and Ravi are naturals. Gina mastered Boston's More Than a Feeling, which she beat on expert, while Ravi and Jeremy took on the epic Freebird on hard (more like impossible). I was all about Sweet Child of Mine, though my skills paled in comparison.

I took Gina to Oakland Airport Monday morning, but she was able to switch to an evening flight from SFO and get a voucher for a free flight. We spent the extra few hours together hanging out for lunch and birthday cake with my mom and brother, followed by more Guitar Hero. After I dropped her off for real, Jeremy treated me to a fat Sundance steak for my birthday, and then I dropped him off at SJC, completing my third trip to a different Bay Area airport in one day. That's gotta be some kind of record.

So what else has been going on?

On Friday, Hillary Clinton visited the Googleplex for a talk. She doesn't have the charisma of Obama or her husband, but she's a solid speaker and has a lot of smarts. If she manages to win the nomination, she'll get my vote.

Andrew got me a new book for my birthday, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor, a memoir by Bruce Campbell, aka Ash from Army of Darkness. I'm more excited about this than I am about the final Harry Potter. Okay, a bit of hyperbole, but a great gift nonetheless.

I also got my Nikkor lens, FINALLY! I ordered it six months ago! It's now selling for $170 more on Amazon than I paid. I'm assuming it was worth the wait, though I haven't made much use of it yet. Maybe my next trip to Hawaii in March.

This morning, Andrew, Ravi, Hubert, and I hit the links for nine holes at Sunken Gardens. Andrew was 1-under through the first two holes and finished with a group best 11-over 40. I was 7-over through the first two holes, then 7-over over the last seven holes, for a 14-over 43. It was the first time I had swung a club in six months, so the start was rough, but it came back quickly.

Okay, I've teased long enough. Gina was able to get us an early reservation at the Kahala Resort for our wedding reception, on May 25, 2008. After 2 years, 7 months, and 25 days of engagement, we finally have a concrete date! Save it on your calendars!

Whew, too much for one blog entry. I'm exhausted. Time for some Guitar Hero.

Congratulations on your new blog! I remember a long time ago when you used to have one, but I forgot all about it.

Congratulations on your engagement! I remember a long time ago when you were thinking about getting married, but I forgot all about it.

May 25, 2008. Whew. Finally. It's still a long time to wait, but at least we can start a countdown.

Let's start the countdown. You should grab the javascript code that the bootleg uses to count down the time until the next tip-off.

I like the countdown idea! Jeremy, you need to tape yourself performing and post it on youtube. I look like I'm constipated in that last picture (it's supposed to be of me being a groupie). The date is pretty much set!
