Stadium Update
They're moving fast! Two days, and it's already a bowl of dirt.
Tearing Down the Ol' Lady
Back to the blog! It's been a long time since my last post...inertia is a funny thing...but I'm over my writer's block now, and I figured I'd re-kick things off with the continuing saga of Stanford Stadium. Our last game ever in the stadium ended Saturday night, and the construction crew immediately rolled in, even as the fans were literally still in their seats. No work was done on Sunday, as the schedule calls for two 8-hour shifts per day, Monday thru Saturday, from now until September of 2006, but the progress on excavation in just one day is already impressive! The red arrow points out my and Lisa's seats...still untouched! Even more impressive is the fact that all of the underground wiring needed for the new stadium has been done for months! Who knew this was all going on right under our feet this whole time? It demonstrates how incredible the preparation has been for this project, and based on everything I've heard, I have no doubt the new place will be ready by its projected opening night, September 9th for the San Jose St. game. The new lower bowl construction is set to begin sometime in December, and the upper bowl construction will start in February. If you are interested in learning more about the project, check out the Stanford Stadium home page. That's where I got these live webcam shots, by the way. So, this would be a great place to wax poetic about the place in which I saw Casey Moore's Run for the Roses and DeRonnie Pitts' flip into the endzone to upset #4 Texas, not to mention my and Gina's graduations, but the fact is, the place was a dump. And it's also the place where I saw the Davis Debacle, among too many others. Time to exorcise those demons.
Big Game Week
First of all, I'd like to begin this blog by presenting a positively brilliant picture, if I may say, that I took at Big Game 2002 at Cal. My friend, Dean, and I went to study at a coffee shop after lectures yesterday morning. On the way to my car to head home, I paused at a green Honda with a Berkeley license plate frame surrounding my back plates. I didn't think it was my car until my car lights came on after I tried unlocking my door! Apparently, my friend who isn't my friend this week, Priscilla (Cal person) had switched my plates while I was in anatomy lab that morning. Needless to say, that sparked a burning desire for revenge (and shame for having to drive home with the awful thing). So, after consultation with a couple of experts, here's what happened this morning: (Note: I warned our security guard beforehand what I was doing, so he wouldn't turn me in for vandalizing her car.)Knowing that she would be suspicious, in class, I tried to throw Priscilla off the track by simply tacking a notecard on her back of a beheaded CareBear with the words "Cal Sucks" written on it (the only bear sticker I had was the CareBear :( ). As we walked out to our cars after lunch, I noticed a couple of my classmates hanging around their cars waiting for us to appear. Priscilla, thinking nothing of them, proceded to walk right past her beautifully decorated car. As she realized that she had bypassed her car, she saw: I have a couple of other pranks in mind, thanks to Russ, Jeremy, Dean, and Chang. Here's to Big Game Week!
DaDaDa Dum... DaDaDa Dum...
Big Game is this Saturday! This is the year for a good Stanford/Cal rivalry game with tons at stake. The rivalry also is felt here in Hawaii. Updates to come shortly...
Happy Belated Halloween!
Per Jeff's request, here is a quick update. I think I mentioned it in a previous post, but I went to my first NBA game about a month ago. Well, it was a pre-season game, but hey, it still counts! The Lakers and the Warriors played here in Hawaii, and my dad and I went. It was awesome to see Monty being his old stomping self, and Kobe had a decent game. Unfortunately, Justin Davis didn't get to play, and it was sad to hear that he was cut :( Oh, I also got to see Pippin and Kareem (he's the tallest dude I've ever seen). I was rooting for the Warriors (sorry, Chang), but I was sorely outnumbered by the pro-Laker Hawaii crowd. Not bad seats! Kobe shooting a free throw with Derek Fisher looking on Here are some pictures from a Halloween I went to last Friday. It was thrown by a fraternity at the Law School, and they only invited law, medical, and business students. It was a lot of fun and my last big break until after finals. So sad... Me and Kanani (a.ka. Britney) BK King and a Big Mac??? (John and Angela) Meet the Flintstones... Err...anyone care to guess this one? A bunch of us went as JPOs (junior police officers in elementary school) Irwyn and Micah, my high school buds, came to crash the party, even though they're alumns of the law school. The med school swept the costume awards! 2 of my guy friends dressed up as Mormons (hope that doesn't offend anyone, but they had the approval of some of my Mormon classmates), and won the male category, Kanani won the female award, and the JPOs and I won the group award! Woohoo! I don't think the law school will invite us after that! Did anyone dress up for Halloween? I'm always looking for interesting ideas. Can anyone guess what the unnamed costume (see above pic) was?
