Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone! What is the coolest gift you ever got? What is the most embarrassing gift you ever received?
Google Zeitgeist

One Birthday, Multiple Ayehs
Andrew turns 26 today! Wish him a happy birthday! He's out of town now, but we celebrated the occasion this past weekend, when Jeremy and Ravi were both in town. The highlight of the evening was when we started getting ready for dinner, and Jeremy suggested we all dress like Ayeh, in honor of his big day. Brilliant! The outfit goes as follows (I feel like I'm revealing the Colonel's 11 herbs and spices): Light patterned dress shirt, untucked, top two buttons unbuttoned, with unbuttoned sleeves folded twice White undershirt, exposed Dark blue jeans White socks Black shoes Long black coat
That's right, folks. White socks with black shoes. Too bad you can't see it in the picture, but we all are wearing white socks.
Ravi didn't have a long black coat, so he borrowed a jacket from Ayeh. Not quite right for the outfit (too short, too brown...the coat, I mean), but still authentic Ayeh. He and Gerald also borrowed Ayeh shirts (of which there are many, all organized by color in his closet).
The results?

Studly, no?
Happy birthday, Andrew! And thanks for leading us to the holy grail of fashion. You're ground zero of the latest trend.
Let the guy play!
As most everyone knows, the NBA record for points in a game is 100. That was probably out of reach, though Wilt only had 69 in that game after three quarters, not much more than Kobe's 62 last night against the Mavs. The second-most points in a game? 78, also by Wilt. Well within Kobe's reach. Only once in NBA history has someone scored over 80. Wilt's the only one to have scored over 73 in a game (four times). The Laker team record? 71, by Elgin Baylor. Easily within reach. Only eight times in NBA history has someone scored over 70 points. Eight times! The last was David Robinson in 1994, when his team force-fed him the ball on the last day of the season against the then-lowly Clippers to win him the scoring title over Shaq. Since then, the highest was TMac's 62 in 2004. And he played the whole game. Last night, Kobe had 62 after three quarters - one more point than the entire Mavs team. So with all of this history within Kobe's reach, what does Phil do? Well, of course he sits him on the bench for the entire fourth quarter. Unconscionable! Granted, the Lakers were winning by 34, and the game had gotten ugly. Kobe accidentally elbowed Dirk in the face, Josh Howard retaliated later with a hard foul, Avery Johnson, the Mavs coach, got thrown out of the game, and if Kobe went gunning for 80, who knows how things would have escalated. But damn it, we should have been able to find out. This is history we're talking about! Some things transcend sportsmanship. Like Ricky Davis missing a layup on his own basket to complete the triple double (the "rebound" didn't count, btw, but he gets points for audacity). When Wilt scored 100, his team won the game by 20. It's not considered unsportsmanlike for a starting pitcher to stay in for the no-hitter when his team is winning by 10 runs. Everyone understands what's at stake. So let the guy play! Let him gun away and go for 80. Or maybe even 90! Heck, the guy was just warming up. He had 15 in the first quarter, 17 in the second, and 30 in the third. It wasn't out of the question for him to go off for another 28 in the fourth. Just another 17 would have given him second place all time. Another 10 would have given him the Laker team record. Another eight would have put him in the top ten all time. Yet he sat. Now we know who's the Grinch that stole Christmas. You suck, Phil!
Vacation!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I'm starting to feel so old. I attended my high school's choir concert the other night, and there were people in it from the class of 2012! Vacation has been going well so far. It mostly consists of sleeping, shopping, TV, and hanging out with friends. But I admit that I am starting to prepare for boards in June... Here are some pictures from some parties for you people out there who are working and need to procrastinate :) My class rented out a bar after finals, and our unit chair, a renown neuropathologist, came out to have a couple drinks with us! How cool is that? (oh, and that's half of me on the right side of the picture) And here are some pictures from my birthday dinner. Macaroni Grill recently opened here, and I had been wanting to go there for quite some time. Unfortunately, they didn't take reservations, and the waitress laughed at us when we told her we needed a table for 23! Pooh, on them for not allowing large parties to make reservations. Anyway, we got in an hour and 15 minutes later and had a fun time! :) Suzanne and I with Dean's pearly whites One of my favorites: butter cream cake from Costco It's my favorite thing to eat...not to wear!
Gina turns 26 today!
Wish her a happy birthday!
Depeche Mode in NYC!
I'm in New York City for two nights for a team offsite (I got in last night), and it's been all meetings thus far, but tonight they are taking us out to eat, followed by Depeche Mode in Madison Square Garden! It was supposed to be a surprise, but one of the presenters told us, "I can't believe you guys get to go to the Depeche Mode concert tonight." Whoops. Depeche Mode is one of my all-time favorites, so this is going to be a treat. I hope they play all their old stuff! Behind the Wheel, Enjoy the Silence, Somebody, Just Can't Get Enough, But Not Tonight, People are People, Policy of Truth...I can go on and on. Short morning session tomorrow, and then back to California, where I'll land just in time to celebrate Hubert's birthday! Hey Hubert, are you finally old enough to rent a car without surcharges?
