Gina and Chang's Favorite Dessert Places These are some of our favorite places to grab a snack, dessert, or cup of coffee. Have a sweet tooth like us? Drop into one of these places! Favorite Restaurants |
| I would hate to know how much money I've spent on pearl milk tea over the years. Gina was the first person to take me to Fantasia, my senior year at Stanford, and I was hooked immediately, even though the thought of tapioca balls sitting at the bottom
of my tea didn't sound very appealing at first. Now, I can't get enough of the stuff. I usually get the standard green milk tea with pearls, but some other favorites include lychee, almond, and hot taro. And the balls are fun to spit. Making matters worse is the fact that I live a short walk away (not that I ever walk) from another place called Verde. The quality is just about as good, though if distance weren't a factor, I would choose Fantasia. |
The restaurant is way too crowded to wait for a seat (no reservations, hour-long waits), and the food isn't that great anyway, but the cheesecakes are excellent. We used to go to the one in San Francisco, on the top floor of Macy's overlooking Union Square,
but now there is a location on University Ave., right across the street from Pluto's. Swing by for a pick-up order and avoid the huge crowds. I am fairly traditional, preferring the regular cheesecake with strawberries, but Gina usually goes for something a little more rich, like the Kahlua coffee (pictured) or the chocolate rasberry truffle. There is a huge assortment of cheesecakes, and I'm still working my way through them all. |
When we are at Pier 39 or Fisherman's Wharf, we'll oftentimes make our way up the hill to Ghirardelli Square for sundaes or shakes, after enjoying a meal at Bubba Gump's. If you're in a group, you might want to go for the Earthquake, a huge six-scoop sundae
that's enough to feed everyone. A bonus feature of the place is the Ghirardelli store, where you can load up on all your chocolate needs. I can never get enough chocolate or ice cream, so this place is perfect. Too bad I make it out there so rarely. |
